A connector for attaching an exhaust gas recirculation tube (16) to an intake manifold (12) of an internal combustion engine. A thermal isolator (18) surrounds an end of the tube and includes a sleeve contacting the tube (16) and merging with a cylindrical body portion which is spaced from the tube (16). An upset bead (30) is formed in the body portion. The tube (16) and thermal isolator (18) are inserted into a flange (20) surrounding an opening (14) formed in the intake manifold (12). A retainer (26) is inserted into the flange (20) and rotated such that latching devices on the retainer (26) engage hooks on the flange (20) to prevent removal of the retainer (26) from the flange (20). The retainer (26) also has ribs for supporting the body portion of the thermal isolator (18). The retainer (26) is sized to engage the bead (30) of the thermal isolator (18) to prevent removal of the thermal isolator (18) and tube (16) from the flange (20). The flange (20) and thermal isolator (18) are sealed against fluid leakage. |
