The hazardous material chamber or cabinet has walls and/or closure composed at least partially of sandwich plates with a damping plate as a self-supporting core (26, 28) with a silicate base, and covers (30, 32, 34) as metal plate outer skins or cement-bonded fibre plates. The core (26, 28) can be a number of bonded layers based on silicate such as Ca silicate or vermiculite, or a mixt. of silicate and cellulose fibres.
