Dimeric and/or trimeric aminopropionic acids obtainable by the conversion of at least one of the carboxyl groups in the corresponding dimeric or trimeric fatty acids into -CH2N[CH2-CH2-CO2H]2- and/or -CH2N[CH2-CH(CH3)-CO2H]2- groups. The compounds (I) are used in acid form or in the form of their alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, alkyl ammonium or alkanol ammonium salts. These aminopropionic acids are suitable for oiling off of leathers. The leathers thus treated are particularly distinguished by their good washing and cleaning, fogging and water resistance.
