Infra-red communication system for personal contact

The system allow peroneal information to be exchanged, such as name, telephone numbers, addresses and interests. A small keypad is used to enter data, and an optical or acoustic device alerts the user when information has been received. The system can be implemented as a separate unit or built into a standard electronic device, e.g. TV set, video recorder, or personal item, e.g. wristwatch, ring, necklace. Communication can be limited to groups of people with certain characteristics, e.g. age range, gender. Laser beams or electromagnetic waves may be used in place of infra-red signals for wireless communication.
