An air filter (10) for filtering air passing into the engine or passenger compartment of an automotive vehicle includes a filter sheet (12) of pleated filter material, a moulded urethane foam seal (14) for sealing the filter within the housing of the air intake system and a pre-filter (16) secured to the filter element so as to filter air prior to the passage thereof to the filter element (12). The pre-filter collects and holds particles which would otherwise clog the filter element and reduce its operating life. <IMAGE>
