A towing device for a trailer has a steering motor (120) with gearbox (110) coupled to the axle of the driving wheel (90) and also to the centre pole. The motor and driving unit are controlled remotely. The gearbox drives a guide wheel (13) through another one (112) and a tensioner (114). The first guide wheel has a vertical shaft (50) coupled to the axle of the driving wheel. The driving wheel is driven through mitre wheel gearing. One guide wheel is screwed to the housing of the motor and its axle is aligned with the drive shaft (30). The steering shaft is hollow, surrounding the drive shaft and has a flange fastening it to the mitre gearbox.
