The microfilm reader described has a slim housing (1) fitted on one side with an objective (2) comprising an objective tube (9) and a lens (3). The objective tube (9) is made up of several rings (10 to 15) which telescope into each other and which are located inside the housing when in the retracted position but can be deployed into an extended position in order to view a microfilm image. The film disc (7) is mounted on a transparent disc (4) rotatably mounted in the housing (1) on the far side of the housing (1) from the objective (2), the film disc (7) lying against the inside surface of the disc (4) facing the objective (2).
