Novel 3-( omega -(4-benzoylpiperidino)alkyl)-4H-Benzopyran-4-ones and derivatives thereof having formula (I), wherein the radicals have the following definitions: R1, R2, R3, R5, R6, which are the same or different, are hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkyloxy, hydroxyl, acetoxy, halogen, nitro, an amino grouping optionally substituted by lower alkyl, acetamido or methanesulphonamido, and two radicals may be fused to give a methylene dioxy; R4 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, benzene optionally substituted by one or more of hydroxyl or methoxyl; and A is an optionally branched C2-12 alkylene grouping.
