The sole (10) has a damping cushion (14) having a V-shaped groove (20) extending crosswise to the sole's lengthwise direction parallel to the sole's tread surface (11), on the front and or back side (16,17). The depth of the groove on the front and or back side of the cushion is from 1/3 to 1/2 the width of the damping pad in the sole's lengthwise direction. The groove can have a different length, breadth and port depth at the front and back. The damping cushion consists of foam at the heel (12) and ball of the foot (13). The damping cushion is wrapped in a sheet (22) inside a cavity in the heel part, parallel to the tread surface and across the sole's lengthwise direction.
