The restrictor attached to the backrest and seat of the chair has a tubular housing fixed to one of them and with stops extending inwards at the ends. The other component passes through the stops and housing and turns in the nut via a non-self-locking head. The nut is brought into engagement with a protrusion (5) inside the housing, the two having mating locking devices. Between the nut and the stop towards the spindle head (6) is a compression spring (9), and engagement takes place after this has been at least partly overridden. The protrusion can be formed by a peripheral rib (5), while the locking devices can consist of helical gear teeth. there can be an intermediate portion (3') between the nut and the spring, extending past the protrusion and typically integral with the nut.
