Guide ring seal with changeable insert

The guide ring seal has a holder (4) on a shaft (3) with an adaptor (7) with a recess (10) for the ring insert (11). The insert is made of a material with virtually the same coefficient of expansion as the adaptor. On the guide surface (18), it has a lining of hard material firmly adhering to the material of the insert. The insert may actually be of the same material as the adaptor. This metal may be vanadium-steel. The lining material may be a metal oxide such as aluminium oxide or titanium oxide, or a mixture of these. It may be a metal carbide such as tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, titanium carbide or silicon carbide.
