Ear tag for marking an animal, comprising a first part (1) and a second part (2), as well as a pin (3). The pin (3) comprises a shank (21) with a pointed head (9). The ear tag is suitable for fitting by means of fitting pliers by pressing the pin (3), which is already connected at the shank side to the first part (1), through the ear of the animal and then into an accomodation opening of the second part (2). In the course of the pressing-in operation a pressing-in force prevails upon the outer surface of the head (9). The head of the pin is designed for concentrating the pressing-in force on at least one cutting line (17) extending from the top of the head in the direction of the shank, so that the head (9) of the pin (3) exerts a cutting action on the ear. The head (9) of the pin (3) preferably comprises a cutting body (13) which provides the at least one cutting line (17) and is at least partially embedded in the material of the shank of the pin, while the cutting body (13) is made of a harder material than the shank (21).
