The device has a bridge (1) of a valve gear which is longitudinally movable on a single guide rail (7), and a positively locking connection is provided between the bridge and guide rail. The guide rail has a cross-sectional profile which deviates from a circular form and which engages in a guide passage provided in the bridge and conforming to the cross-sectional profile of the guide rail. A connecting piece (10) attached on the bridge engages with a slot formed in the guide rail and extending parallel to the guideway.
