IC engine management method

In a procedure for controlling an IC engine (1), the exhaust gas temperature is considered before it enters the catalyser (8) and its theoretical value is calculated from engine parameters, using a previously patented method. The temperature of the exhaust pipe is also calculated from the engine parameters. The two temperatures are found from the temperatures at a previous point in time, the steady state temperature at the particular operating point deduced from a characteristic and a transient response based on mass intake air-flow. The time constants of the transient response are also found from a characteristic, as are the time lags.
