Adaptive noise reduction system for digital image sequences

The noise reduction system uses an electronic data processing circuit with low-pass filtering of the image points, using filter coefficients provided by a low-pass filtered prediction error and the estimated likelihood of movement for each image point. Pref. a subtractor provides the difference between the low-pass filtered output image sequence (S) and the input image sequence (X), the obtained prediction error fed to a low-pass filter (TPF) and used to address a table (LT) of filter coefficients. A gain buffer (GB) temporarily stores the variance factors obtained by a recursive process from the filter coefficients.
