960,436. Pipe joints; springs. OSKAR BIEGEL G.m.b.H. Sept. 12, 1961 [Dec. 7, 1960], No. 42127/60. Addition to 714,028. Headings F2G and F2S. [Also in Divisions D1 and H2] A coupling for attachment to a rigid or flexible tube, a rod or an elastic cord, comprises an externally screw-threaded tubular body 12, Figs. 1a, 1b having an internal diameter which is larger than the external diameter of the tube, a nut 13 adapted to screw on to the body and having a conical, internal surface 14 and an annular coiled spring 15 which fits over the tube and is compressed against the tube by the conical surface of the nut when the latter is screwed on to the body. As shown in Fig. 1a, a rigid pipe 10 is fitted into a flexible hose 11 and, in Fig. 1b the fitting 12 has an integral, rigid spigot 16, and a flexible sleeve 17 is disposed over a rigid pipe 10; the sleeve may extend over both pipes, when the latter are of rigid construction. In a modification, (a) a rubber seal 25, Fig. 10, is fitted between the tube 11 and the body 12, and the nut contains the spring 15, which is disposed between metal washers 26, 27, the washer being internally coned; alternatively, the washer 27 is dispensed with and the conical surface provided on the nut and (b) two annular coiled springs 15, Fig. 16, in series are employed. |
