A building is constructed from prefabricated box-like units with their sides internally finished and fitted. Each unit may consist of a timber, framework 1, 2, 6, 7 provided with panels 10, 11, chamfered edges 3, fittings such as windows 15, roof trusses 8, 9, wheels 16 and metal mesh or hessian 12, 13 arranged as shown. The units are arranged adjacent one another and superimposed to form a row of terrace houses or a multi-storey dwelling, the spaces between the units being filled with concrete reinforced by the mesh or girders arranged externally of the units, see Figs. 3, 5 - - 9 (not shown). One or more sides of the unit may constitute a removable bulkhead to register with a like bulkhead in an adjacent unit to form a single room. The unit may be modified to define a staircase, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The spaces between the units may serve as heating ducts.
