PROCESS FOR PREPARING METHYLGLYCOLATE

The production process of a melthyl glycolate comprises (a) reacting formaldehyde with carbon monoxide to make a glycolic acid, (b) reacting the glycolic acid with methanol to make a methyl glycolate, and then reacting nonreacted residual formaldehyde with methanol to make methylal, (c) distilling the mixture of the methyl glycolate and the methylal to separate them, respectively, (d) reacting the methylal with a Fe-Mo catalyst to make a fromaldehyde, and (e) recovering and concentrating the formaldehyde to recycle it as a raw material.
