The mechanism to trim and transfer the leader strip of a paper web, in a papermaking or finishing machine, has a second blower system (23,25) to generate an air stream at the under side of the guide plate (3) away from the web, to flow over the transfer edge (27) of the guide plate (3), where the leader strip (15) travels through.
