<p>A gas control valve (12) combined with a thermally responsive shut-off valve (14) for controlling gas flow to a gas-fired appliance, e.g. a clothes drier. Said control valve (12) is electrically operated, and is provided with a valve body in three parts, comprising a middle portion (88), an upper portion (90) and lower portion (92), all made from a polymeric material. Said shut-off valve has a metallic, e.g. aluminium casting, body (16) threadably connected to a gas supply source at its inlet opening (18), its outlet opening (22) being aligned with and removably connected to the inlet port (100) of the control valve middle portion (88), an O-ring (104) providing a gas-tight seal. Said shut-off valve incorporates a thermally responsive means to isolate the gas supply in response to exposure to abnormally high temperature values, said abnormal temperature being substantially lower than the temperature (500 deg.F) at which the polymeric material, from which the control valve body is made, becomes unstable. Also claimed is a gas valve comprising a control valve including polymeric body portions connected together and having an inlet and outlet.</p> |
