PURPOSE:To provide a high performance engine, which is constituted to combine high thermal efficiency with quietness and exhaust gas low environmental pollution, and a combustion system therefor, in the fundamental combustion arts of a direct injection compression firing system internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:A jet flow-form fuel group 5 is brought into collision with a fuel collision part 2 in a piston cavity 1, and a reaction area is rapidly formed in a compression atmosphere combustion chamber. By feeding a subsequent fuel group in an initial reaction area A, orderly development of a fuel group owing to collision diffusion is effected by a reaction internal part. By orderly fuel development at the reaction internal part, feed fuel is activated by utilizing heat exchange and latent heat operation occasioned by vaporization and gasification of a diffusion fuel group. Simultaneously, control of the temperature of a reaction area is executed. Further, the reaction area is enlarged and developed by a means to feed fuel to the reaction internal part, and by establishing a condition to positive mix with air in a development progressing area, diffusion combustion based on a fuel injection rule is caused to occur to temperature control atmosphere.
