PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer, improved in deformation resistance, heat resistance, surface appearance, etc., of products in low-temperature mold and useful for parts of electronic equipments, parts of automobile equipments, etc., and improved in heat resistance, surface appearance, etc., by reacting a polyarylene sulfide with an alkylmercaptan salt. CONSTITUTION:This copolymer is obtained by reacting (A) a polyarylene sulfide of a polymer, etc., of formula I [R<8> is a 1-6C alkyl, an alkoxy, phenyl, carboxyl, etc.; (m) is 0-4; (n) is 1.3-30 as average polymerization degree] with (B) a compound of formula II [R<1> is an alkyl, an alkyleneoxy or an alkylenecarboxyl; (n) is 1-4; R<2> is hydrocarbon group having (n)valence; M is an alkali (earth) metal], e.g. n-octadecyl-mercaptan Na salt in (C) an aprotic organic solvent such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. Furthermore, an amount of the component Bused is preferably 0.1-20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A. |
