In a slide projector with a drive motor 2 for moving a slide to and from a magazine, a slide mover 13 is displaced from its rest position shown by a coupling with the motor drive transmission, the coupling comprising a two-armed lever 14 which is automatically disconnected from the slide mover 13 in the above position to permit its manual operation. Lever 14 is pivoted to a carriage 11 which reciprocates on rails 12 when driven by crank arm 10 which is eccentrically pivoted on motor-driven disc 8. Hook-shaped lever arm 14' is spring biased clockwise to drivingly engage projection 18 of slide mover 13 until carriage 11 returns to the position shown when lever arm 14" engages stop 19 and lever 14 is pivoted anti-clockwise to disengage the slide mover.
