PURPOSE:To simplify and make small a discharge lamp lighting circuit by connecting a plurality of capacitors with the secondary side of a transformer, and furnished a switching element at one end of a discharge lamp to be connected with the capacitors. CONSTITUTION:A specified DC voltage is supplied to an input terminal 1 and converted into a full-wave AC voltage by an oscillator circuit 2, and then converted by a transformer 3 into a sine-wave AC power which is necessary for lighting up a discharge tube 6 of a hot cathode type etc. The output of the transformer 3 is supplied to one end of the discharge tube 6 whose other end is connected with a switching element 7 which is capable of bidirectional switching, and the element 7 is controlled by a signal control circuit 5 for making shortcircuiting and opening of the current path in the discharge tube 6, and thereby the lighting condition of the discharge tube 6 is controlled. Thereby the lighting condition of a plurality of discharge tubes 6 can be controlled using one set of oscillator circuit 2 and transformer 3, and it is possible to reduce the material and fabrication costs for a discharge lamp lighting circuit of a large-sized display device and also to achieve a compacted construction. |
