PURPOSE:To efficiently produce 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid from 2,6- diisopropylnaphthalene without using a large amount of a metal catalyst and without precipitating an alkali metal 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate. CONSTITUTION:2,6-Diisopropylnaphthalene or its oxidation intermediate is oxidized with molecular oxygen in an aliphatic carboxylic acid solvent by using a catalyst composed of a cobalt compound, a manganese compound and a bromine compound in the presence of a pyridine compound at about 200 deg.C to produce 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid. The reaction product is cooled to a room temperature, a precipitated solid substance is separated and cleaned to give 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid having >=99% purity in >=80% yield. |
