OPTICAL LIQUID LEVEL SENSOR

PURPOSE:To enable preventing of malfunctioning by extraneous light or a drop in measuring accuracy by providing a pipe-shaped hood with the core thereof almost the same with a sensor package having a slit on the side thereof. CONSTITUTION:An optical liquid livel sensor 1 is made up of a light emitting element 2 and a photo detector 3 sealed up within a package 4 formed by a transparent member made of an epoxy resin or the like. The package 4 is formed in a shape of a head top part 4a made roughly hemispherical and a shell part 4b made roughly cylindrical joined and the light emitting element 2 and the photo detector 3 are arranged side by side on the shell part 4b diametrically. A hood 5 is formed in a shape of a pipe with the core thereof the same with the shell part 4b. Then, a slit 6 is provided in the direction orthogonal to a line connecting the light emitting element 2 and the photodetector 3 to make a liquid retained in a gap between the package 4 and the hood 5 drop quickly. This enables the miniaturization of the sensor 1 thereby achieving higher re sponsiveness.
