The voltge drop between two points close together on a bare conductor (1) of a transmission line is made by two conducting clamps. The clamps are fixed to the conductor at the measuring points (a,b) and connect by two wires (3,4) to a measuring instrument. One wire (3) forms a rectangular flat coil (5) along the conductor, between the clamps. The coil length (l) is equal to the distance between the measuring points and its width (c) is determined by conductor diameter (D) and line geometry. This compensates for induced voltage from the other lines. Several interchangeable coils, of different widths may be used, having several turns. One clamp may carry a current detector, e.g. a Rogowski coil. |
