Adjustment of fuel-air mixture ratio for vehicle with individual throttle flaps for each cylinder

A car engine has a throttle flap for each cylinder and it is wished to control the air-fuel mixture for each cylinder when the engine is idling. The exhaust gas composition in each exit pipe to the exhaust manifold is measured using a carbon monoxide and oxygen analyser (23) and the proportions of these gases are compared with required values. Depending on the measured deviation, the fuel injection quantity in each cylinder per cycle is increased or reduced from the original identical values for all cylinders. This is done by a person tapping into the microcomputer (24) which feeds a signal to the engine control unit (8).
