Freewheel drive for bicycle

The rear axle has an axle bar (30) through the centre of a hollow hub (10) with bearings at each end. One end of the hub has a widened housing in which the freewheel is fitted and over which is fitted the rear gear block. The freewheel comprises spring loaded pawls (43) on the centre mounting running over a ratchet track inside the hub, to transmit torque in one direction. The freewheel is positioned in line with a wheel spoke flange of the hub. The pawls are in pairs, with two pairs diametrically opposite to each other. A groove between the pairs of pawls locates a control spring. Bearings support both sides of the freewheel.
