Method and appts. for producing a flange joint

A flanged connection between the end of a pipe (1) and a closure element (2) is produced by means of a flanging mechanism incorporating at least one flanging roll (4) which, with appropriate rotation of either the flanging mechanism or the pipe, forms the pipe end (3) with an angle of about 90 degrees against the closure element. The flanging roll is mounted perpendicular to the pipe axis (6), and its force (P) applied in the direction of this axis causes initial upset deformations of the pipe end. These upset deformations are eliminated by means of a calibrating roll (5) mounted (with its axis parallel to the pipe axis) on a circle which is coaxial with the pipe axis. The flanging head (7) of the appts. is provided with at least three flanging rolls (4) and at least three calibrating rolls (5) arranged in an alternating sequence with one another. Flanging is commenced by appropriately shaped calibration rolls, and is completed by flanging rolls. The relative rotational speed between the pipe and the flanging appts. is in excess of 1000 rev/min. The working surfaces of both the flanging and calibrating rolls are provided with an appropriately shaped contour.
