A blood sugar level measuring apparatus adapted to determine a blood sugar level by applying the visible light sent out from a light-emitting element to dehematized tissue, a part of the tissue of a human body, and detecting the light, which has permeated through or reflected on the dehematized tissue, by a light-receiving element. This blood sugar level measuring apparatus is provided with a light-emitting element for applying visible light to a part of the dehematized tissue of an organism, and a light-receiving element for detecting the light permeated through or reflected on the dehematized tissue, and adapted to measure the absorptivity of the visible light applied to the dehematized tissue, on the basis of a detected output from the light-receiving element, and determine a blood sugar level by computing by processing unit a calculated blood sugar level on the basis of the correlation between an absorptivity determined in advance and a blood sugar level, and a measured absorptivity. The result of the computation is indicated on a display monitor.
