The insert is in the form of a container (23) used for food, or drink, or an additive, depending into the water (7) contained in the kettle (5). The container is open at the top and is provided as a closed vessel (25) where it depends into the kettle contents, the rim of the container resting on the edge of a reception opening (11) at the centre of the kettle lid (1). Pref. this opening is normally closed by a secondary lid (31), when the insert is not in use, with the secondary lid fitted over the open top of the insert when this is fitted into the opening in the lid. Pref. the insert has an attached handle (29) for easy insertion and removal.
