The output stage (102) has its converted power limited by clocking, the ON and OFF time points being so mutually tuned that the max. permissible pulse lossy power and the max. permissible permanent lossy power of at least one of its component are not exceeded. Pref. the tuning is such that the two max. lossy powers of a component, first exceeded, are not exceeded. Typically, the two lossy powers of an output stage transistor (200, 300) are not exceeded. Similarly, the two lossy powers of a shunt resistor (202) are not exceeded.
