Method of handling and cutting tubular metal containers

The hollow containers are delivered by a rotary conveyor (3) cooperating with an adjustable stop (15) to bring them into contact with a longitudinal cutting tool (17). The cutting tool consists of an internal blade and external counter-blade, which cooperate with internal and external tools of a separator unit (18) acting on the cut edge of the container. A reciprocating support (8) is associated with the conveyor, sliding longitudinally relative to the containers to engage them and push them against the adjustable stop for cutting. The internal cutting and separating tools may be fixed relative to the conveyor, while the external tools mounted for movement relative to the container's longitudinal axis.
