Control of fuel mixture enrichment during change-down of automatic gearbox

A procedure for automatic computer-controlled gear-changing for a car (with auto gearbox) that accelerates down-changes has the engine torque temporarily reduced when a gear is disengaged, followed by a temporary enriching of the fuel mixture. Before the engagement of the lower gear, the engine is brought to synchronism with the speed of this lower gear by this enrichment. The fuel enrichment would be about 20% for normal down-changes, but if a kick-down situation is called for, or a mountain-travel program is in force with a large gas pedal deflection, or if engine braking is called for, then the fuel enrichment is between 50% and 100%.
