<p>The aim of the invention is to provide a new composition for the treatment of baldness and particularly for retarding and preventing hair loss. It has been discovered that thioacids, preferably thioaryl acids, such as thiobenzoic acid, reduce and prevent hair loss, particularly hair loss associated to baldness. According to the invention, a thioacid such as thiobenzoic acid is topically applied to the hair scalp, preferably in the form of a dermatologically acceptable composition. The compositions of the invention contain a mercaptocarbonyl compound, preferably a thioacid, typically thiobenzoic acid or salts or other dermatologically acceptable derivatives thereof in a quantity effective to control the hair loss, in combination with a dermatologically acceptable vehicle. In order to retard and prevent hair loss (and in some occasions to regenerate hair) there are disclosed topically applicable, dermatologically acceptable compositions, with a component which comprises a mercaptocarbonyl group or dermatologically acceptable salts thereof or a derivative thereof. One of the typical preferred compositions contains thiobenzoic acid.</p> |
