The rubbish is divided into three fractions, whereby a fine fraction with a granular size of less than 100 mm passes through a sieve, a coarse fraction is received as a sieve overflow, and a light fraction is sucked away. The fine fraction is fed away in a gas-form condition. The coarse fraction is freed of materials contg. iron and heavy items, is then crushed to a granular size of less than 100 mm, and finally fed away in a gas-form condition. The gases of the coarse and light fractions are recovered and the residues from the gasification are melted down.
