The procedure consists of washing, mechanical separation and chemical treatment, esp. with caustic soda, to remove organic materials from the sand. The sand is first passed through a washer (1) with aeration to homogenise the material. This is followed by a mechanical separator (2) which removes some of the organic materials contained in the sand, a second washer (3) and a second mechanical separator (4) and a dispersant (9) for the chemical product, which can be an acid, a base or a tension-active substance.
