<p>An electro:rheological gel compsn. comprises: (A) a curable silicone polymer of formula selected from : (i) (RO)3SiO(RXSiO)m(R2SiO)nSi(OR)3; (ii) (RO3SiO(RXSiO)m(R2SiO)nSi(X)3; (iii) (X)3SiO(RXSiO)m(R2SiO)nSi(X)3 and (iv) mixts. thereof; where R = 1-20C monovalent hydrocarbon radical; X = R, acyloxy gps., hydroxy gps., alkoxy gps., oxime gps. and olefinic hydrocarbon radicals having 2-20C; m = 0-100; n = 100-2,000; (B) electro:rheologically active solid particles; and (C) a metal catalyst; wherein the gel prior to the application of an electric field has a storage modulus of 500-500,000 pascals at a frequency of 10 hertz at 25 deg. C, a peak strain amplitude such that the gel resides in the linear region of viscoelasticity, and has a dynamic mechanical loss tangent of at least 0.5.
