An infrared detector of integrated construction has a photoconductive element 13 mounted on a substrate 33 for rapid cooling by a cold finger 11 forming part of a cooling engine. The mounting between the substrate 33 and the cold finger 11 is achieved by an isolation mounting 40 which provides good thermal conductivity between the free end of the cold finger 11 and the substrate 33. The isolation mounting 40 defines a gap 41 which communicates with the vacuum enclosure surrounding the photoconductive element 13, via a slot 47. The gap 41 isolates the substrate 33 from a transverse wall 31 closing the free end of the cold finger 11. In this manner the gap 41 reduces the generation of spurious signals in the photosensitive element 13 by isolating it from any distortion of the transverse wall 31 and by inhibiting the transmission of shock, vibration and acoustic noise from the cooling engine. <IMAGE> |
