System for working wood

In a system for working wood using rotary cutterhead means for planing or moulding cutter blades comprising a first, woodworking machine having at least one spindle mounting such cutterhead means and feed means for feeding wood thereat to be worked on by the blade or blades thereof, a second, blade profiling machine for providing moulding cutter blades with a desired profile eg. by grinding according to a template, and a third, template producing machine for producing templates to a desired design eg. by grinding, the system includes: in the third machine, a locating arrangement eg. abutment 51 accurately locating a template blank to produce the desired design relative to a datum eg. and edge 53 on the template; &cirf& in the second machine (Fig. 4 not shown), a locating arrangement accurately locating the datum on a template produced by the third machine with respect to a datum as a cutter head (eg. endface 11a Fig. 4) mounted in the second machine with its blade or blades installed; and &cirf& in the first machine (Fig. 2 not shown), said spindle having a datum against which the datum on the cutterhead can be set. The spindle is not adjusted in its axial direction, the position of any profile cut on a wooden workpiece being determined solely by the production by the third machine of a desired design relative to the said datum on the template.
