The airbag for an automotive passenger airbag module is formed from flexible material and having a mouth including first and second opposed edges. The improvement comprises: each of the first and second opposed edges having incorporated in it a retainer rod. There are fist and second disc-shaped flanges carried by each of the retainer rods. There is a planar stiffening rib carried by each of the retainer rods and extending radially outward from it longitudinally along it intermediate the first and second flanges.
