Long duration ureteral prosthesis.

The prosthesis, designed to remain in place for up to a year, comprises a tube made from a biocompatible ferrous metal spiral (1), the coils of which are in close contact but permit the easy passage of urine between them in both directions. The last few coils (4) of the spiral at each end of the tube are joined together, e.g. by welding, to prevent it stretching in these zones. In addition, each end of the tube can be in a hook shape to hold it in place within the patient's body. The prosthesis is inserted with the aid of a metal rod with a supple tip which causes no injury. The rod keeps the tube in line while it is being inserted and is easily extracted afterwards.
