PURPOSE:To provide a flame resistant electrical insulating composition and electric wire/cable with high flame resistance by mixing an inorganic flame resistant agent and silicon nitride short fibers with a polyolefin and preventing the evolution of halogen gases and also dripping phenomena at the time of burning. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic flame resistant agent and silicon nitride short fibers are mixed with a polyolefin to provide a flame resistant electrical insulating composition. An electric wire and cable are manufactured using, for example, the composition consisting of 100 pts. by weight of the polyolefin, 50-300 pts. by weight of the inorganic flame resistant agent, 5-100 pts. by weight of silicon nitride short fibers. By mixing the silicon nitride short fibers at the time of making the polyolefin flame resistant by adding the inorganic flame resistant agent, the silicon nitride short fibers are dispersed in the composition and the fibers are intermingles in the composition, so that the dripping of the composition is prevented at the time of burning and thus excellent flame resistance is provided. |
