Friction clutches.-Radially arranged clutch levers 54, fulcrumed at their outer ends by struts 56 in a cover 16 fast with a driving flywheel 14, are pivoted so that intermediate part-cylindrical surfaces 72 on them roll over corresponding flat surfaces 74 on a pressure plate 26 thus caused to move axially for engagement of a driven clutch disc 24, tangentiallyarranged multi-strip springs 42 between the pressure plate and the cover opposing clutch engagement. In their unstressed condition the strip springs 42 are of bowed shape, and are straightened by clutch engagement. The intermediate surfaces 72 on the radial levers 54 are formed at the edges of holes receiving lugs on the back of the pressure plate 26 and so formed as to oppose centrifugally-induced radial movement of the levers. Controlling clutches.-Clutch-engaging thrust on a rod 106, Fig. 8, e.g. by a servomotor (not shown), turns a lever 95 about a fulcrum strut 97 mounted upon a fixed support 99 so that the inner bifurcated lever end 95a, provided with pins &c. 100, slides axially a thrust bearing 90 for pivoting of the radial levers 54. |
