PURPOSE:To obtain a surface flaw detector for a cylindrical material which has a plurality of sensors having different flaw detecting methods and a function for copying in the width of a whetstone by providing ultrasonic probes of a surface wave method for an axial flaw and a circumferential flaw of the material, and providing an eddy current flaw sensor. CONSTITUTION:A holding unit body 28 copies the surface of a roll 11 with outer wheels 21 and holds a gap between axial and circumferential flaw probes 16, 17 held at a probe holder 24 and the surface of the roll 11 of a material to be inspected constant by an inner wheel 22 and a spring 25. Circumferential and axial flaw scrapers 26, 27 are rotatably provided at the body 28 via pins 26a, 27a. A holder 23 of an eddy current flaw sensor 23a is provided at a holding hardware 18. The hardware 18 is pressed toward the roll 11 by a spring 18. Thus, a change of the diameter of the roll is copied with the wheel 22 and two sets of the wheels 21 provided at the holder 23. With such a structure, many types of flaws such as a crack, a pinhole, etc., existing on the surface layer of the roll can be detected. |
