PURPOSE:To provide a manganese dry battery by which a defect of a conventional battery such as the impossibility of mass production or an insufficiency in improving a characteristic is eliminated and a large load discharge characteristic is significantly improved by using a specific positive electrode active material. CONSTITUTION:A manganese dry battery is composed of mixture of electrolytic manganese dioxide particles 2 in the shape of a needle-like crystal 3 having an aspect ratio of 2 to 20 and graphite. The graphite has the shape of a scale piece-shaped plate, and needle-like crystal particles of manganese dioxide are stuck to a scale piece-shaped graphite plate. In an aggregate of electrolytic manganese dioxide crystal particles, needle-like crystal particles having an aspect ratio of 2 to 20 aggregate by properly arranging their azimuth, and create a grain boundary of 0.2 to 0.6mum. A particle diameter of the needle-like crystal particles of electrolytic manganese dioxide is 0.2 to 10mum. |
