PURPOSE:To make a recording medium highly dense and improve recording characteristics of the recording medium, by providing an intermediate layer between a read layer and a recording layer and changing a state of the read layer steeply. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optic recording medium is formed of a substrate 1, a transparent dielectric layer 2, a read layer 3, an intermediate layer 4, a recording layer 5, a protecting layer 6 and an overcoat layer 7 layered in this order. The read layer 3 is magnetized within a plane at room temperatures and turned to be vertically magnetized in accordance with the temperature rise. The recording layer 5 is vertically magnetized at room temperatures. The intermediate layer 4 has horizontal magnetization components, controlling an exchanging/coupling state of the read layer 3 and recording layer 5. The intermediate layer 4 is so composed as to change a state of the read layer steeply. Accordingly, the recording medium becomes highly dense with recording characteristics improved. |
