The invention relates to a method in the roller operation of a paper machine in order to ensure a vibration free rotation of the rollers. In the method, the main rigidity I1, I2 of the roller 10 as well as their magnitudes and directions are calculated or measured. In the method, the difference in rigidity I1 - I2 is calculated, and stiffening ribs are added in such a way that added resultant rigidity corresponds to the measured or calculated rigidity difference I1 - I2, and their direction is adjusted to the direction of the minimum rigidity calculated or measured.
