Hypodermic syringe with a pump mechanism comprises a cylinder (1) which can be moved in and out of a case (2), and has at one end a seat (11) for a cap fastening (16) to connect the cylinder to a canal (12) for the injection liq. (14) which is pumped through the case, seat, cap fastening and channel into the tissue of the human or animal. The cap fastening (16) immediately behind the canal inlet (17) has a narrow passage (18). The cylinder (1) has an extended section (7) facing the canal (12) with a ball-cock (19) at the canal end. The dia. of the ball-cock (19) is slightly greater than the width of the narrowing (18) so that when the cylinder (1) is fully inserted into the case (2) the ball-cock is pulled through the narrow passage and then when the cylinder is pulled out in the opposite direction or the cap fastening (16) is removed from the seat (11) the ball-cock is removed from the extension (7) and acts as a sealing valve against the canal inlet (17) if the cylinder is reinserted into the case.
